The Weekender: Halloweekend

By Alyssa Tomaseck

Where did October go?! It’s Halloween weekend, everyone! Let the festivities of this weekend greatly haunt you forever because you’ll be sure to have a spooktacular time! Aside from corny puns, the next few days are filled with the usual (delicious food and awesome music), plus holiday celebrations throughout the city. So dust the cobwebs off those costumes and get ready for the tricks and treats!

Said to be one of the top-rated haunted attractions in the nation, Terror Behind the Walls at the Eastern State Penitentiary is the perfect place to visit this Halloween weekend. The old, run down prison is set up with six different attractions that will be sure to make you scream. This year is the 25th Anniversary and that means two new attractions! Click the link and check out the details to set up your entire night with a dinner and prison package! Believe me, the weeklong nightmares you’ll be having are totally worth it.

Thrills and chills! The popular Six Flags Fright Fest in Jackson, New Jersey is a highly anticipated event during this time of year. All weekend you and your friends can visit the Demondistrict, Asylum, Circus Psycho, The Blood Fountain, and many more attractions throughout the park to keep that adrenalin pumping. Buy your 2016 Season Pass while you’re there and visit for free the rest of 2015!

The Manayunk Brewing Company on Main Street is hosting the Halloween party with the best BOOze! This Saturday night you could want nothing more than great craft beer, you’re friends, and a two floor dance party to celebrate the holiday. Access to a VIP bar and over $500 in cash and prizes will be going on all night as well as (of course) a classic costume contest. At door admission will be cut off if tickets sell out and so purchase your ticket ahead of time and get your first drink free before 11pm!

There’s nothing like the crisp fall morning air. This Saturday at 7:30am support cancer research while running along the Ben Franklin Parkway and Schuylkill River. The Rock-N-Roll half marathon is a great way to start Halloween festivities while participants can be entered in a “best dressed” contest if wearing a costume and will end the race at a Finish Line Festival with live music to celebrate. Participants will also receive T-shirts as well as admission to a two day Health and Fitness Expo. Register now to support the cause!

Don’t let all of the candy consumption haunt you these next few weeks! Just a reminder that every Saturday until November 21st you can kick it into high gear at Flash Boot Camp before the next holiday (Thanksgiving!) comes around in just a few weeks. 10am at the Market and Shops at Comcast Center is the place to burn calories and conserve cash. It’s a skinny fee of $10 per class and by participating you’ll receive a $10 voucher for the Market and Shops. OR post a social media pic with the hashtag #FlashBootCamp to get your next session free!
