The Weekender

By Alyssa Tomaseck

The leaves may be falling but this weekend’s fun is on the rise! What we love most about the weekend is that it’s a chance to get out there and do things you’ve never done before. We have new and exciting events planned for you this weekend that you don’t want to miss out on. I mean you’d think this city would have thought of a cheesesteak festival a long time ago…but nope! This weekend is not only hosting the first of many cheesesteak festivals, but also new tech fashions and a public Halloween event at the Please Touch Museum! So check it all out. I mean you know what they say, new season new you! (Or something like that)

Everyone knows that the cheesesteak is Philadelphia’s signature sandwich. Go enjoy over forty different cheesesteak styles, including vegetarian and gluten free, at the first ever Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival. Mark your calendars for this delicious event on Saturday, October 24th at the Lincoln Financial Field between 11am and 5pm. And if this wasn’t enough to get your taste buds watering think about the fact that you will witness history being made around the main attraction! The creation of a 450-foot-long cheesesteak will be happening right then and there. Now I want a bite of that!

We’re moving from salty to sweet (the best combination). Check out the 100th celebration of the famous layered cake this Saturday after the Cheesesteak Festival. Buy your tickets and head to the Mount Airy Art Garage from 7pm to 9pm. Pastry chef Eboni Peartree will be joining the party along with great drinks, food, and company. End this delicious day off right!

Wearable technology is growing in the future of the fashion industry. This Saturday experience the free event showcasing designs from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Unbelievable and interactive designs are being hosted at the College of Engineering at Temple University from 2pm to 6pm. So go and get ahead on the tech trends before anyone else!

This Saturday the Please Touch Museum is hosting the children’s Monster Mash! Museum wide events start with a members-only hour at 4:30pm then welcomes non-members of the general public to enjoy at 5:30pm. The DIY theme encourages children to dress up and trick-or-treat throughout all of the museum galleries. A photo booth, theater performances, a dance party and more will get everyone in the spirit and kick off the museum’s “Halloween Hoopla” week! Purchase your tickets beforehand by clicking the link to TicketLeap.com or grab them on your way in at the door!

NOTE: #FlashBootCamp
After all of this consumption of great food and beer it’s the perfect time to hit up Flash Boot Camp and get in shape for next week’s events. Don’t forget every Saturday from now until November 21st you can get your sweat on at the Market and Shops at Comcast Center. All you need to remember is the number ten! Each session costs $10, the time to arrive is 10am, and you receive a $10 voucher to the Market Shops for attending. Snap a selfie or brag about reaching your goals with the hashtag #FlashBootCamp and get your next class for FREE!
