Go Towards the Light!

It is all too often that we get caught up in the hustle of buying presents, putting in late hours before year end, arranging holiday travel, figuring out what to wear to the holiday party without depleting your Christmas giving fund and of course the crazy weather patterns that could unapologetically get in the way of all the above. Thus, leading us into January thinking, “I can’t believe it’s already 2016!”
This season, let us not only give presents but let us be present and take the time to enjoy the corny Christmas songs, indulge in the seasonal fare and libations and share the spirit of the holiday’s with friends and family and (obviously) all of your social media followers.
The City of Brotherly Love and its surrounding towns host an array of attractions that will undoubtedly warm your hearts making it easy for you to embrace the holidays. Below are a just a few of our favorite places to visit:

Our favorite summer watering hole overlooking the Delaware River has been transformed into a winter riverfront wonderland. Fully outfitted with an Olympic-size skating rink, heated tents, fire pits, cozy seating, and several food options provided by Garces Group and warm holiday treats. The twinkling lights strung on all of the surrounding trees, newly themed events will keep you from thinking about the chill in the air.

Macy’s Christmas Light Show at Macy’s Center City – November 27th– December 31, 2015

A wholesome Philadelphia tradition that dates back to 1956, the Macy’s in Center City illuminates 100,000 LED lights along a large wall inside the Wannamaker building creating an array of holiday images. The show is narrated by Julie Andrews and sound tracked by the Wannamaker Organ. It’s a great way to witness something spectacular while you shop… You literally can’t miss it. On the third floor of Macy’s you will find a 6,000 square-foot “Dickens Village” bringing to life the Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. This family favorite showcases more than 100 animated figures that reenact 26 of the story’s most memorable moments.

Franklin Square Holiday Festival – November 12- December 31

The Franklin Square Holiday Festival is a tri-fecta of entertainment, shopping, food & drink and it’s free! The light show features 50,000 twinkling lights surrounding a 12-foot tall lit up kite accompanied by holiday music by Philly Pops. Cozy up to the fire pits in the winter beer garden, Ben’s Bites & Brews and have yourself a merry little German brew, mulled wine, or spiked cider courtesy of Brauhaus Schmitz. “Food Truck Friday” enters into full effect every Friday as an added attraction to guests visiting the Square. As if that’s not enough, you can do a little shopping at the Holiday Market featuring winter accessories and unique finds.

Cape May, New Jersey – November 27- December 31

If you don’t mind a short road trip and the weather permits it, treat your date or out of town guests to a night in the Victorian town of Cape May. With over a dozen attractions at Congress Hall including warm treats to sip on while you listen to the carolers and outdoor/ indoor gift shops to find those chunky knit winter accessories you can’t find in stores. Every branch and tree is lit to perfection to illuminate the yard and remind you that it’s not just a summer beach town.
