Halloween in Philadelphia

Welcome back chilly October nights, baggy sweaters and an abundance of pumpkins on your Instagram newsfeed. October has so much to offer from outdoor festivals to new cozy bars and thriller movies, all leading up to the main event, Halloween. Check out what C&A has on the horizon for celebrating the PSL season:

What to Do
Everyone loves a street festival… Good beer, seasonal foods, live music. Luckily for the City of Brotherly Love, we’re presented with our choice of street fairs this year. The RiverCity Festival taking place on the Delaware River Front in Fishtown on October 8th will celebrate local food, music, and businesses. Those who have their honorary degree from Hogwarts will love the Harry Potter Festival in Chestnut Hill on the 21st. A bar crawl through the town, transformed into the fictional town of Hogsmeade, will be followed by an all-day festival and Quidditch match on the 22nd!

Where to Go
This month also brings some festive new fall hangouts, including One Liberty Observation Deck’s Bar 57, a sky-high experience with views to last a season (open through the end of October). For the best flavors of the season, check out Fishtown’s newest culinary offering, Root – which offers wines from all of the regions in the world, Spanish-inspired Gin-Tonics, inventive cocktails and a huge selection of craft beers. Mistral, Princeton’s sophisticated new spot with James Beard-decorated chefs at the helm, features globally-inspired small plates in a serene & modern space.

What to Watch
Don’t feel like going out? Cuddle up to a classic Halloween film like Hocus Pocus or The Exorcist, if you’re daring enough. Or if you want to hit the theaters, the thriller releases coming soon include The Girl on The Train or Friend Request on October 7th, and Quija: Origin of Evil on October 21st. There’s nothing better than a good scare at Halloween time, so be sure to set aside some time for the thriller of your choice.

What to Wear
With all of the events to look forward to- nothing trumps the main event, Halloween. October 31st is a holiday loved by many and feared by others. A day to dress up, disguise, or transform yourself into your alter ego, favorite character, or even favorite food (which is trending right now.) However you feel about Halloween, you can’t get past the holiday without having to dress up at least once. Where better to look than everyone’s favorite movies and television shows? Here are some of our picks for the best costume ideas, inspired by some of our favorite characters:

Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones

Vincent Vega & Mia Wallace, Pulp Fiction

Rey, Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Romy and Michelle, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion

All of Will Ferrell’s Characters
