Maternity Style

By Nicole Cashman

Being a lover of all things fashion, keeping stylish during my pregnancy was of the utmost importance. I think anyone who knows me knows that belly flashing crop-tops aren’t my maternity style but maintaining a sophisticated and comfortable look that fit my still-hectic work schedule and keeps me cool or warm is key. My guide to dressing the bump below:

The Basics: The maternity essentials like tank tops and draped cardigans can be snagged at Old Navy and Gap. No need to splurge, as you continue to grow, you will grow out of them anyway.   They have every necessary color and can go day to night and into overnight as pajamas.

Splurge On It: I invested in the most amazing Theory maternity black pants and will basically live in them for the next two months leading up to my due date.

Maxis and Tunics: To avoid a closet full of maternity clothes once baby arrives, I did do some shopping in the non-maternity sections. Jersey maxis from Calypso on Walnut Street, tunics from NU New York, and flowy tops from some little boutiques in Newport, RI served as great bump camouflage and kept me cool and comfy this summer. If you have to go maternity, I found some great ones from Rosie Pope.

Don’t Do It: The “Belly Band” is not a friend to the pregnant ladies. The elastic band which plenty of people and blogs encouraged me to buy was the least comfortable and flattering of my purchases.
