REAL SIMPLE weddings: Tip #1
The gurus over at REAL SIMPLE weddings recommend booking wedding entertainment 8 months prior to the wedding. I wasn’t even engaged 8 months ago, but I’m still managing to put together a night of unforgettable entertainment, especially with the help of their suggestions.
“How can I make sure songs like the “Electric Slide” aren’t played?” The REAL SIMPLE answer? “Ask. Create a list of the songs you absolutely don’t want played and a second list of your favorites. Review each of these lists with the musicians or the deejay and emphasize how important it is that your requests be followed, even if you seem relaxed at the reception. While deejays can usually play specific favorites, bands generally aren’t as flexible. (Bands will typically learn five new songs for a wedding. From there, you can choose favorites from their set list.) For a list of more things you may want to discuss with your band or deejay, go to realsimple.com/askyourmusicians.”

Here’s a tip. Don’t tell the band that it’s a wedding. Just tell them it’s a party. The price will be much less. And yes, Martha Graham Cracker plays weddings, although we recommend that parents on both sides are okay with a 6’5″ hairy drag queen singing Prince and Motley Crue tunes at their kids’ nuptials.
